Cooking Contests

Are you the “The Next Great Baker,” the “Top Chef” or the “Cake Boss?” Let us be the judge of that! The Kentucky State Fair will host five cooking contests throughout the 2016 Fair on the Gourmet Garden Stage sponsored by Kentucky Beef Farmers, in South Wing A. The contests range from bourbon to SPAM® and entries are due July 1, so whip up your best recipe and show it off at the Kentucky State Fair!
The contests are as follows:

KENTUCKY FARM TO SCHOOL JUNIOR CHEF
Friday, August 19-Friday, August 26

Sullivan University will partner with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School Junior Chef program for the Kentucky Farm to School Junior Chef Competition. Scholarships totaling $70,000 will be awarded to Junior Chef Champions who will be crowned in the statewide competition. (District and Regional competitions have already taken place, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the final rounds at the Fair!)

EVAN WILLIAMS© BOURBON COOKING COMPETITION
Friday, August 19, 6:00 p.m.

Create any type of original main dinner entrée, soup, stew, barbecue or casserole using Evan Williams® Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and your favorite ingredients. First prize will take home $250, second prize $125 and third prize $75.

KENTUCKY BEEF COUNCIL BACKYARD BURGER COMPETITION
Sunday, August 21 - 4:00 p.m.

Te Kentucky Beef Council invites you to test your creativity and imagination and come up with your best award-worthy backyard burger recipe. Prepare a delicious burger that will wow the judges and earn the designation as Kentucky's Best Backyard Burger! First prize will take home $250, second prize $100 and third prize $50.

GOLD MEDAL© FLOUR COOKIE CONTEST
Monday, August 22, 6:00 p.m.

Home-baked, made-from-scratch cookies are the best! Enter yours in this contest. First place wins $200 and new this year is a New Entrant Award. Tuesday, August 23, 6:00 p.m.

"Sweet & Savory" is both a winning combination and our 2016 contest theme! Make any dish, dessert or appetizer that features our beloved canned ham and some level of sweetness. The most creative and delicious efforts will be rewarded! Entrants compete for up to $150 of cash prizes, blue ribbons and a shot at the coveted grand prize, a trip to the 2016 SPAM JAM® Waikiki Festival.

THE KENTUCKY PORK CHALLENGE
Wednesday, August 24, 6:00 p.m.

The Kentucky Pork Producers are inviting you to submit your most creative and flavorful pork recipe. Combine fresh pork with up to five other ingredients for a convenient and tasty main dish. Winning recipes become the property of the Kentucky Pork Producers and the Kentucky State Fair. The winner will come home with $250. Second place will receive $100 and third place will receive $50. Choose your favorite brand, cut and ingredients and let us taste your best!
